Entire Pacific Ocean Will Be Contaminated with Radiation in 6 Years ~ Breaking Fukushima News 10/20/2013

Research was done in 2011 based on Tepco’s lie saying it was in cold shutdown and that radioactive water releases had stopped after very little contamination had escaped. We now know that 300 tons of radioactive water have been released into the ocean every single day and releases have only increased. It is much worse than this model can convey.

Even nuclear engineers here are unable to access information on Fukushima, what happened, what’s happening now. Energy Secretary is keeping everyone in the dark, using the NRC to prevent anyone finding out what’s going on. They don’t want anyone to know about the core explosion in Unit 4. It was stated the number 4 reactor was “running unloaded”. They want people to believe two incompatible things. 1) That there was no core in Unit 4. 2) The fuel pool exploded, blowing the building to pieces without damaging the fuel rods at all.
Lake Barrett has said the fuel rods in the Unit 4 spent fuel pool are undamaged and not distorted. He says the fuel rods can be removed safely because they are fine. Hatrick Penry thinks the fuel pool exploded. If the fuel pool had exploded with enough force to blow up the whole building, the fuel pool would also have been damaged and would not be holding any water. Those upper floor fuel pools are actually “pretty fragile” according to Arnie Gunderson. He has friends at Tepco who have kept him up to speed on the condition of the fuel pool. Everyone seems to be confused, only because they were not paying attention to early references to the reactor 4 core, and they believe the PCV was empty. It wasn’t.

Citizens of Japan are so anxious to “support” the disaster victims of the Tsunami, Earthquake, nuclear disaster, they are clearly ignoring the dangers of radiation & radiation in the pacific ocean.  Abe wants to “dispel rumors” of radioactive seafood… while it was announced (at least in This clip I included) that the entire Pacific Ocean would be contaminated within 6 years (Posted August 30, 2013, however the study was done before then).

CNN, Oct. 18, 2013: Scientists puzzled as rare sea monsters wash ashore […] For the second time in a week, a sea animal that typically is nowhere near the surface, washed ashore in California. This time, a saber-toothed whale. […]  Such a sighting of the whale up close in California “is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” [said Heather Doyle, director of the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium]. […] Just three days earlier, another rarely observed species — a sea-serpent-like animal called an oarfish — was discovered dead at Catalina Island off the Los Angeles coast. You see the Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz cannot learn from bad experiences. Why? Because energy corporations have paid him many millions of dollars to look after their interests and he does. Moniz must be removed from office and tried for high treason for covering up the Fukushima meltdowns. The ongoing release of radiation from Fukushima consitutes a continuing nuclear attack on the United States of America. Moniz sits on the boards of these energy corporations and is constantly spewing his lies into the ears of our politicians to preserve his money stream. I have NO CONFIDENCE in Ernest Moniz. He will allow himself to be poisoned with the rest of us to squeeze another buck out of obsolete forms of energy.

Humankind’s Most Dangerous Moment is Upon Us.

Humankind’s Most Dangerous Moment is Upon Us.

We are within weeks of what may be humankind’s most dangerous moment and it is coming just as the greatest credit bubble in history is about to pop. The most dangerous situation humanity has ever faced is upon us and no one is watching.

Only a few have reported on what is about to happen starting in November. The operation, to remove 400 tons of highly irradiated spent fuel beneath the plant’s damaged Reactor No. 4, could set off a catastrophe greater than any we have ever seen, independent experts warn. An operation of this scale, says plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Company, has never been attempted before, and is wrought with danger.

The Japan Times writes, “In November, Tepco plans to  begin the delicate operation of removing spent fuel from Reactor No. 4 [with]  radiation equivalent to 14,000 times the amount released by the Hiroshima  atomic bomb. Removing its spent fuel, which contains deadly plutonium, is an urgent task. The  consequences could be far more severe than any nuclear accident the world has  ever seen. If a fuel rod is dropped, breaks or becomes entangled while being  removed, possible worst-case scenarios include a big explosion, a meltdown in  the pool, or a large nuclear fire. Any of these situations could  lead to massive releases of deadly radionuclides into the atmosphere, putting  much of Japan — including Tokyo and Yokohama — and even neighboring countries  at serious risk.”

The infrastructure to safely remove this material was destroyed as it was at the other three reactors. Spent reactor fuel cannot be simply lifted into the air by a crane as if it were routine cargo. In order to prevent severe radiation exposures, fires and possible explosions, it must be transferred at all times in water and heavily shielded structures into dry casks.

Arnie Gundersen, a veteran U.S. nuclear engineer and director of Fairewinds Energy Education, who used to build fuel assemblies, has a lot to say about what we all have to live through during the next year. “They are going to have difficulty in removing a significant number of the rods. There is a risk of an inadvertent criticality if the bundles are distorted and get too close to each other … If you think of a nuclear fuel rack as a pack of cigarettes, if you pull a cigarette straight up it will come out — but these racks have been distorted. Now when they go to pull the cigarette straight out, it’s going to likely break and release radioactive cesium and other gases, xenon and krypton, into the air.

I suspect come November, December, January we’re going to hear that the building’s been evacuated, they’ve broke a fuel rod, the fuel rod is off-gassing.”

Fukushima is Here Now ~ This Will Kill You.

Cancer cluster in Ulster. They suggest the Leukemias are caused by former apple orchards that existed in the area long ago, but they weren’t reporting illness until 2012. UK gets a lot of fallout from Fukushima due to high precipitation.

You think that won’t kill you? That will KILL you! The children are dying and they are trying to blame farmers who aren’t even there anymore. We have to break through the wall of silence in science and the media.

HIGHLAND — County and state health officials are investigating whether a potential “cancer cluster” exists in the Town of Lloyd after at least four children have been diagnosed with childhood leukemia within the past 20 months.

Lloyd Supervisor Paul Hansut referred the cases to the county Health Department two months ago. According to county sources, Ulster County Health Commissioner Carol Smith reviewed the request and found it credible enough to forward to the state Health Department.

Smith was not immediately available for comment Thursday. No comment was available from the state Health Department.  The next steps and the time frame are undetermined.

There’s been a long-standing fear in towns like Lloyd, where apple growing has been a primary industry, that soil and water may be contaminated by decades of reliance on toxic weed and pest control chemicals.

Hansut said earlier this week that he became concerned after attending a benefit for one of the children and learning of other cases. While he said he didn’t believe all the affected homes were built on former orchards, at least three of the homes drew their water from wells.

fukushima10Stacey Malheiro’s 8-year-old daughter Alexandra was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia or ALL, the most common type of childhood cancer, in July of 2012. Following exhaustive and exhausting steroid and chemotherapy, Alexandra’s disease is now in remission, her mother said.

“She’s a trouper,” she said, a description that’s been used by everyone who’s come to know Alexandra.

Three boys ranging in age from 3 to 4 have also been diagnosed with cancer, two with ALL and one with stage four neuroblastoma, according to Malheiro, who stays in touch with the affected families.

Hansut said that since he’s posted information on Facebook he’s received at least fifty inquiries from residents worried about the possibility of cancer clusters in connection with other types of cancer.

Stacey Malheiro, her husband, Joe, and two sons moved to Highland seven years ago from Brooklyn.

“We’re very proud people,” Stacey Malheiro said Thursday. “We’re taught ‘You do it yourself; don’t ask for help.’ But people have come forward, they’ve been great, and all we can do is pay it forward, which is what I hope this does for other families, helps them in some way.”

Government must take over Fukushima nuclear cleanup

Government must take over Fukushima nuclear cleanup

Recent weeks have seen increasingly concerned calls, from within and without Japan, for the Japanese government to take a direct role in managing the multifaceted crisis at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant. The most recent opinion poll shows 91 percent of the Japanese public wants the government to intervene.

The Economist calls Fukushima a “nightmare,” and the editors of Bloomberg deem it “ground zero” for the Abe government. Tepco’s handling of the stricken plant continues to be a litany of negligence and error, raising grave doubts over whether the company is up to the incredibly difficult and important task of decommissioning the plant. While it may be politically inconvenient for Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to accept, it is time to intervene and take over the plant before it is too late.

Understandably, most commentary on the Fukushima plant focuses on the multiple leaks of water laced with high- and low-level radiation. An estimated 300 tons of highly toxic water, including Strontium-90, has leaked from a hastily constructed tank. This became a level-3 crisis on Aug. 21, “serious” on the United Nation’s 7-point International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale, and represents the most urgent reported problem at the plant since the initial meltdowns.

The leaks closely follow Tepco’s admission that contaminated water has been flowing into the ocean since the accident took place in on March 11, 2011. Crises have been arising with such frequency that NRA Chairman Shunichi Tanaka has described the plant as being like a “haunted house” in which “mishaps keep happening one after the other.”

Yet Japan has been very lucky that nothing worse has occurred at the plant. But luck eventually runs out. The longer Tepco stays in charge of the decommissioning process, the worse the odds become. Without downplaying the seriousness of leaks and the other setbacks at the plant, it is important to recognize that things could very quickly get much worse.

In November, Tepco plans to begin the delicate operation of removing spent fuel from Reactor No. 4. There are 1,300 used fuel rod assemblies in a pool above the reactor. They weigh a total of 400 tons, and contain radiation equivalent to 14,000 times the amount released by the Hiroshima atomic bomb. The spent-fuel pool, standing 18 meters above ground, was damaged by the earthquake and tsunami and is in a deteriorating condition. It remains vulnerable to any further shocks, and is also at risk from ground liquefaction. Removing its spent fuel, which contains deadly plutonium, is an urgent task.

Even under ordinary circumstances spent-fuel removal is a difficult task, normally requiring the aid of computers. But due to the damage, removal of spent fuel from Reactor No. 4 and the five other reactors will have to be done manually. This work will be undertaken in arduous conditions, increasing the risk of yet another mishap.

And if something does go wrong, the consequences could be far more severe than any nuclear accident the world has ever seen. If a fuel rod is dropped, breaks or becomes entangled while being removed, possible worst case scenarios include a big explosion, a meltdown in the pool, or a large fire. Any of these situations could lead to massive releases of deadly radionuclides into the atmosphere, putting much of Japan — including Tokyo and Yokohama — and even neighboring countries at serious risk.

When the stakes are this high, who do you want to bet on? Tepco’s abysmal track record is characterized by repeated blunders. Even now there are few signs that Tepco fully understands the magnitude of the situation they — and we — collectively face. It is therefore vital, literally a matter of national security, that Fukushima No. 1′s decommissioning be taken over by the government with the assistance of an international task force of experts.

Regarding the contaminated water problem, industry minister Toshimitsu Motegi announced on Monday that, “from now on, the government will move to the forefront.” This is a start, but not enough. Tepco must be relieved of control of the whole decommissioning process.

One of the key findings of the independent commissions that studied the accident at Fukushima No. 1 was that it was a “manmade disaster” because the risks and warning signs were repeatedly down-played or ignored. These kinds of warnings have been streaming from the plant since the crisis began. How many more alarm bells does Abe need before he recognizes the gravity of the problem and intervenes?

It is understandable why Abe and his backers do not want to directly take on this toxic job. They risk being tarred with responsibility for further mishaps. But this crisis is too big for Tepco, and the public wants decisive intervention. So the buck stops at the prime minister’s desk.

Moreover, many of Abe’s key aims as leader — including restoring Japan’s economy and national pride — are dependent on successfully managing the precarious situation at Fukushima No. 1. Even his pro-nuclear agenda is reliant upon what happens there: With each new problem or revelation, public skepticism towards nuclear power deepens. Ultimately this is what Abe’s prime ministership will be judged on, whether he likes it or not. Now is the time for action, before it is too late.

The United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR) during their 60th session, submitted a report on expected human  health effects of the Fukashima Daiichi nuclear meltdowns. The report, produced by only 80 people called “scientists”, predicted no deaths or negative health impacts attributable to radiation releases in Japan among workers or the general public. In retrospect, it is obvious that the report was innacurate and deliberately misleading.

. The Fukushima Daiichi plant manager who stayed through the night, trying to prevent the meltdowns, is dead. His cancer was of rapid onset and progression. The publicity surrounding his death made it impossible to conceal the hazards Tepco workers face on a daily basis at Fukushima Daiichi.

. The published reports of several dozen children in Fukushima Prefecture diagnosed with thyroid abnormalities and three with thyroid cancer, a rare disease in children, also confirms the serious public health hazard associated with releases of ionizing radiation from Fukushima.

. The UNSCEAR report constitutes a deliberate attempt to conceal the potential detrimental effects of the release of ionizing radiation on all complex life forms exposed to it. The Tepco emergency workers at Fukushima face the greatest hazard and are silenced by their employer. Workers have not been provided the necessary equipment to accurately determine their exposure. Medical examination of workers appears to be inadequate and yet reports have leaked publicly of 400% increase of elevated white blood cell counts among workers, indicative of Leukemia.

. While working under the most hazardous possible conditions, the Fukushima emergency workers have been prevented from speaking freely to news reporters or on the internet. This is unacceptable. As more accurate measurements of radioactive contamination released by the nuclear meltdowns has become available to the wider scientific community and the public, it has become impossible for UNSCEAR to conceal the seriousness of the disaster, the grave threat to the entire planet, and the immediate peril Fukushima emergency workers face in the performance of their duties.

. The Fukushima emergency workers are risking their lives at Fukushima Daiichi for every person on Earth. It is now perfectly clear that those men are fighting a force that may threaten civilization and even life as we know it on the entire globe. The workers must be fully informed of the hazards they face. Their partucipation must be voluntary and they must have freedom of speech.

. The UN’s failure to develop an international task force to stop the Fukushima meltdowns, recapture the lost cores, and make safe the spent fuel rods in fragile reactor buildings, has caused the public to doubt the wisdom and competency of world leaders around the globe. The failure to protect the health and human rights of Fukushima emergency workers cannot continue.

. The UN must immediately act to secure the rights of Fukushima emergency workers to be fully informed of the risks they face, the right to speak freely and publicly about Operations at the Fukushima Daiuchi nuclear power station, and the best possible equipment and health care must be provided for their safety. No matter who you are or where you live on planet Earth, the Fukushima emergency workers are fighting for your life.

I DEMAND that the U.N. conduct Inspections of Working Conditions at the Fukushima Daiichi Plant.

This Alert is in reference to the November 1988 explosion at the Brown Brothers Construction Site located at 87th Street and Blue River Road in Kansas City, Mssouri. I want to know why the firefighters used water on a fire that had explosives on site. I believe that the lack of professional handling of the fire at the Construction Site was a major factor in the deaths of those six firefighters.

I, Edward Brown (Father of Richard Brown) would like to know why there was never any questioning of the firefighter’s responsibility to follow standard protocol in approaching a fire that had an unknown cause. In the transcripts, it is reported that the fire chief repeated three times “Do not put water on that fire!” Was this sheer negligence on the part of the firefighters when they didn’t listen to their Chief’s commands nor follow standard training in the Hazmat rules on how to handle a fire that had explosives on site? Is it possible they had not been trained properly? It seems that had they not applied water and if they had followed protocol, the explosion would NOT have happened! Does a Part of the responsibility in this mishap belong to ones in charge of training?

Granted, it has been determined by the court that it was a planned fire and the courts have finally determined and declared that it was not planned by the five people charged and doing the prison time now for allegedly committing a crime. The fact is they have consistently insisted they did not set the fire. Attention should be shifted now to find the ones who planned and set this fire. A young friend named, Bryan, who was a minor at the time, is still serving a six-count life sentence for involuntary man slaughter along with four other people. There is a law that says a 17 year old minor cannot be sentenced to life without parole and yet Bryan is still in prison. What will it take to release those innocent victims for a crime they did not commit?!? When does the responsibility finally rest in the hands of the ones who planned the fire and the firefighters who responded unprofessionally to an unknown fire that ultimately led to the explosion?!

I am disgusted with the corruptness of this case and our court System! Bryan was a minor being tried as an adult for a crime he did not do.

My son, Richard Brown,  was spending the night at his grandfather’s house and he was in bed at the time of this tragic fire. He got out of bed, and his family and the neighbors all testified that they had seen him standing on his grandfather’s porch in his boxers right after the first explosion. I know for sure that it is virtually impossible to be at two places at the same time!

For 17 years now my son has been basically lost to me. He has also lost everything. He loved to clown around, tease people, and make others laugh. The first thing he lost was his freedom which he valued because he wanted to live a good upstanding life. He wanted to have a family, a wife, and children. He left three babies, one was a year, one was a new born, and his daughter was seven years old. Their mother had to raise them without their dad’s help. He wanted to offer his talents to better his family and to help people; he was good hearted and looked for people to help. My heart is sickened in regard to these facts of what he has lost and also for the loss of all this time. I also hurt for all the families of the other people that were wrongly accused and convicted of this horrible crime. I am sorry about the firefighters and their families; they are all victims of this atrocity as well. The people who were wrongly convicted and are serving time in prison are also truly victims, too.

With this letter I entreat the courts, lawyers and interested parties who actually seek justice in this world, and most specifically the ones that have worked on this case, to hold accountable and find the guilty ones who set this fire, who originated and committed this crime. I also encourage, anyone to question the level of responsibility the firefighters had in performing their job. Do not misunderstand my plea; I know it is incredibly unfortunate what happened to everyone concerned.

Yet, everyone makes mistakes and sometimes it even costs them their lives. We know it also causes incredible pain for their family and loved ones. What will correct this horrible wrong is to find the people that were the real criminals, the true perpetrators of this horrible tragedy.

I invite anyone reading this letter right now to interview me as to my extensive research and knowledge of this case. I hope to be able to tell each one of you what I plan to do next! You may email me at the following email address:  pewebre@sbcglobal.net .

The Firefighter Case: Part I http://www.crimemagazine.com/firefighter-case-part-i.

The Firefighter Case: Part II http://crimemagazine.com/railroaded-part-ii-firefighters-case

The U.S. Department of Justice should impanel a grand jury to re-investigate the “wrongful convictions” of five people in the 1988 arson and explosion deaths of six Kansas City firefighters, attorneys for the defendants said Thursday.

A U.S. Department of Justice investigation prompted by stories in The Kansas City Star said last year that others in addition to the defendants were involved in the arson and explosion that killed firefighters Thomas Fry, Gerald Halloran, Luther Hurd, James Kilventon Jr., Robert D. McKarnin and Michael Oldham.

The federal investigation, only portions of which were released to the public, said “several newly developed pieces of information, not previously known to the prosecution,” suggest that other people, who were never prosecuted, “may have been involved in the arsons.”

Justice Department officials said at the time, however, that the new evidence did not exonerate the five people convicted in the arson. Any new suspects, investigators said, would have committed the crime along with those found guilty at a 1997 trial.

Investigators did not explain why the defendants, who have served more than 17 years and always have maintained their innocence — would have failed to tell authorities that they had accomplices.

But attorneys for the defendants said they now believe the new evidence they will reveal Friday “points completely away from those defendants and toward others who were not adequately investigated.”

Those convicted in the case were Frank Sheppard; his brother Skip Sheppard (who died in prison in 2009); their nephew Bryan Sheppard; his best friend, Richard Brown; and Frank Sheppard’s girlfriend, Darlene Edwards.

Pilate and the Midwest Innocence Project, who are working together on the case, said they will be asking members of the public who have additional information about the case to contact them.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri said late Thursday that Pilate made several presentations regarding new evidence in the case to the office last year. But it added that “none of the information Ms. Pilate has presented … to date indicates that the defendants in the firefighters case were wrongly convicted.”

“In this case, as in every case, the United States Attorney’s Office remains willing to receive and review any information from Ms. Pilate or others regarding the 1988 firefighters case and encourages anyone with relevant information to step forward and contact federal law enforcement.”

To reach Mike McGraw, call 816-234-4423 or send email to mcgraw@kcstar.com.

Attorneys representing two of the four living defendants serving life sentences in the 1988 deaths of six Kansas City firefighters said Friday that they have developed “compelling new information that casts substantial doubt” on the guilt of all four.

Cheryl Pilate of Morgan Pilate LLC and Laura O’Sullivan, legal director of the Midwest Innocence Project, said at a news conference that their new findings — along with information unearthed last year by federal authorities — should be enough to convince the government to impanel a new grand jury to investigate the 24-year-old case.

Pilate said that there were significant gaps and leads that weren’t pursued in the original investigation and that the new information “casts very grave doubts on the government’s case.”

“This case is not going away,” she said.

The U.S. attorney’s office has said that several meetings with Pilate have yet to convince them to reopen the case.

But Pilate said Friday that she will be presenting the new information at additional meetings and that the U.S. attorney is maintaining an “open door” to hearing any new evidence.

Pilate said several newly developed pieces of information “not previously known to the prosecution” suggest that others were responsible for the November 1988 arson and explosion that killed firefighters Thomas Fry, Gerald Halloran, Luther Hurd, James Kilventon Jr., Robert D. McKarnin and Michael Oldham.

She said her investigation has concentrated on witnesses who drove by a highway construction site the night of the explosion and whose statements suggest that other people were responsible for the crime.

However, she declined to discuss specifics, noting that could influence potential witnesses and hinder the ongoing investigation by her office and the Midwest Innocence Project.

Nearly nine years after the deadly explosion, five people were convicted of the crimes: Frank Sheppard and his brother Skip Sheppard, who died in prison; their nephew Bryan Sheppard; Richard Brown; and Frank Sheppard’s girlfriend, Darlene Edwards.

O’Sullivan represents Bryan Sheppard, the youngest of the defendants, and Pilate represents Edwards.

At the news conference, Pilate read portions of a statement from Marion Germann, a retired battalion chief who is the only firefighter who survived the explosions, in which he said he supports reopening the case because he knows some prosecution witnesses did not tell the truth.

“I’ve just always been uncomfortable with whether the right people went to trial,” Germann told The Star in a 2008 interview.

In addition, for the first time, a relative of one of the fallen firefighters agreed that a new investigation may be needed.

Leo Halloran, brother of Gerald Halloran, told The Star that a new grand jury needs to consider new evidence in the case.

“That’s the only way to clear all this up,” Leo Halloran said.

The Star began investigating long-held doubts about the convictions in 2007. Ed Massey, who was cutting wood at the construction site around the time of the explosion, told the newspaper and later federal investigators that he saw someone set the fires that caused the explosions, but that it was not the five who were convicted.

That and other newspaper stories prompted an independent investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice that was completed in July 2011.

The department found information, not previously known to the prosecution, that suggested that other people “may have been involved in the arsons.”

But Justice Department officials said the new evidence did not exonerate the five defendants who were convicted.

At Friday’s news conference, the lawyers asked that anyone with information about the case email it to kcfirefighterexplosion88@gmail.com.

Fuel Pool 4 is WAY more dangerous than the Cuban Missile Crisis because nuclear war was NEVER inevitable. The collapse of fuel pool 4 IS inevitable if they can’t remove the fuel rods. If the Japanese try to do it alone, the results will likely be the same as collapse.

Per Valerie Price

We are now within two months of what may be humankind’s most dangerous moment since the Cuban Missile Crisis.

There is no excuse for not acting. All the resources our species can muster must be focussed on the fuel pool at Fukushima Unit 4.

Fukushima’s owner, Tokyo Electric (Tepco), says that within as few as 60 days it may begin trying to remove more than 1300 spent fuel rods from a badly damaged pool perched 100 feet in the air. The pool rests on a badly damaged building that is tilting, sinking and could easily come down in the next earthquake, if not on its own.

Some 400 tons of fuel in that pool could spew out more than 15,000 times as much radiation as was released at Hiroshima.

The one thing certain about this crisis is that Tepco does not have the scientific, engineering or financial resources to handle it. Nor does the Japanese government. The situation demands a coordinated worldwide effort of the best scientists and engineers our species can muster.

Why is this so serious?

We already know that thousands of tons of heavily contaminated water are pouring through the Fukushima site, carrying a devil’s brew of long-lived poisonous isotopes into the Pacific. Tuna irradiated with fallout traceable to Fukushima have already been caught off the coast of California. We can expect far worse.

Tepco continues to pour more water onto the proximate site of three melted reactor cores it must somehow keep cool.Steam plumes indicate fission may still be going on somewhere underground. But nobody knows exactly where those cores actually are.

Much of that irradiated water now sits in roughly a thousand huge but fragile tanks that have been quickly assembled and strewn around the site. Many are already leaking. All could shatter in the next earthquake, releasing thousands of tons of permanent poisons into the Pacific. Fresh reports show that Tepco has just dumped another thousand tons of contaminated liquids into the sea ( http://www.alternet.org/environment/ ).

The water flowing through the site is also undermining the remnant structures at Fukushima, including the one supporting the fuel pool at Unit Four.

More than 6,000 fuel assemblies now sit in a common pool just 50 meters from Unit Four. Some contain plutonium. The pool has no containment over it. It’s vulnerable to loss of coolant, the collapse of a nearby building, another earthquake, another tsunami and more.

Overall, more than 11,000 fuel assemblies are scattered around the Fukushima site. According to long-time expert and former Department of Energy official Robert Alvarez, there is more than 85 times as much lethal cesium on site as was released at Chernobyl.

Radioactive hot spots continue to be found around Japan. There are indications of heightened rates of thyroid damage among local children.

The immediate bottom line is that those fuel rods must somehow come safely out of the Unit Four fuel pool as soon as possible.

Just prior to the 3/11/11 earthquake and tsunami that shattered the Fukushima site, the core of Unit Four was removed for routine maintenance and refueling. Like some two dozen reactors in the US and too many more around the world, the General Electric-designed pool into which that core now sits is 100 feet in the air.

Spent fuel must somehow be kept under water. It’s clad in zirconium alloy which will spontaneously ignite when exposed to air. Long used in flash bulbs for cameras, zirconium burns with an extremely bright hot flame.

Each uncovered rod emits enough radiation to kill someone standing nearby in a matter of minutes. A conflagration could force all personnel to flee the site and render electronic machinery unworkable.

According to Arnie Gundersen, a nuclear engineer with forty years in an industry for which he once manufactured fuel rods, the ones in the Unit 4 core are bent, damaged and embrittled to the point of crumbling. Cameras have shown troubling quantities of debris in the fuel pool, which itself is damaged.

The engineering and scientific barriers to emptying the Unit Four fuel pool are unique and daunting, says Gundersen. But it must be done to 100% perfection.

Should the attempt fail, the rods could be exposed to air and catch fire, releasing horrific quantities of radiation into the atmosphere. The pool could come crashing to the ground, dumping the rods together into a pile that could fission and possibly explode. The resulting radioactive cloud would threaten the health and safety of all us.

Chernobyl’s first 1986 fallout reached California within ten days. Fukushima’s in 2011 arrived in less than a week. A new fuel fire at Unit 4 would pour out a continuous stream of lethal radioactive poisons for centuries.

Former Ambassador Mitsuhei Murata says full-scale releases from Fukushima “would destroy the world environment and our civilization. This is not rocket science, nor does it connect to the pugilistic debate over nuclear power plants. This is an issue of human survival.”

Neither Tokyo Electric nor the government of Japan can go this alone. There is no excuse for deploying anything less than a coordinated team of the planet’s best scientists and engineers.

We have two months or less to act.

For now, we are petitioning the United Nations and President Obama to mobilize the global scientific and engineering community to take charge at Fukushima and the job of moving these fuel rods to safety.

If you have a better idea, please follow it. But do something and do it now.

The clock is ticking. The hand of global nuclear disaster is painfully close to midnight.

This is global problem and there should be global involvement! Next time I hear that a problem is being taken care of, I will not listen unless there is total transparency. Really disappointed that the Japanese Government is more concerned about how they are perceived. Guess what Japan?- you have no credibility anymore. It’s time for the UNITED NATIONS to take over managing this problem. The USA is at great risk as are all the other island nations in the Pacific right now. How long will it be, before all the oceans are polluted with radiation all because of Japan’s ego?

All nuclear energy plants should be de-activated immediately!

“Since the earthquake/tsunami of March 2011, the wrecked reactors at Fukushima-Dai-ichi have been pouring 300 tons of radioactive water into the Pacific Ocean daily. It’s getting worse. The buildings are unstable and the spent fuel pools could drain and start an unquenchable nuclear fire, leading to explosions that would threaten all life. We urge the United Nations General Assembly to Issue a Declaration that Fukushima constitutes a global emergency, and to appoint an international group of independent experts to assess, plan, gather resources, and implement remedies, working with Japan.” via Avaaz petition.

First they came for the communists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a communist.

Then they came for the trade-unionists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a trade-unionist.
Then they came for the jews,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a jew.

Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.

The situation for immigrants seeking political asylum in Greece is a total nightmare! How they are treated is shocking considering that Greece is the birthplace of Democracy!  “Golden Dawn” is a ‘neo-Nazi‘ party that seeks out immigrants to beat them mercilessly and terrorize any others who sympathize with the situation that these political asylum seekers are in while trapped in Greece.

“Golden Dawn” wants these political asylum seekers out of Greece so they harrass and beat them.  The problem is a result of the EU’s rules and regulation for asylum seekers that make Greece a port of entry to the EU so that they cannot proceed to eastern Europe easily. These immigrants are stuck in a country that can not afford to feed them.

It is unacceptable for the disturbed psychopaths of ‘Golden Dawn” to be elected to the Greek Parliament, and exist anywhere in society including the police department. Not all Greeks agree with this treatment that the police inflict and Greek government condones. “GOLDEN DAWN” is trying to take over Greece and make it a fascist state!

On your nightly news, you hear little about the Japanese ongoing catastrophe at Fukushima. A triple nuclear meltdown with fully molten cores in reactors 1 through 3, a core explosion in reactor 4 that blew the massive core all over Fukushima Prefecture and out into the Pacific ocean. Multiple hydrogen explosions were barely reported and after two and a half years, most people believe the reactor is “stable”. The phrase “clean up” is used to describe the frantic efforts of Tepco to keep water pouring into the cracked basements where the lost cores were last thought to be and to keep boron water in cracked fuel pools where a massive number of damaged fuel rods threaten to start a nuclear chain reaction above ground with more nuclear material than 14,000 Hiroshima bombs plus weapons grade Plutonium. The Hiroshima bomb did not release Plutonium.
Reassurances from nuclear industry PR men labelled “experts” have lulled the public into a false sense of security. People do not ask, “What is the real deal? Should we be worried? After all, Japan is very far away.”
Here are the facts. Japan would have to be on the moon for the poison spewing from Fukushima to be safe. There is no safe level of internal radiation and that’s what we’re talking about. The toxic substances from Fukushima are already in our air and food. If the contamination is not contained very soon, the poison will also accumulate in our groundwater. Fukushima has been releasing radinuclides into air and sea since the meltdowns began and cannot be stopped until the cores are captured and contained. Each core weighs roughly 150 tons. Temperatures of the cores are estimated to be higher than 4,000 degrees Fahrenheit. The density of the materials in the fuel rods and the ability of those fuel rods to undergo fission means that microparticulate poisons are continually pouring out, the metals behaving as gasses, rising into the atmosphere, traveling around the world, raining out on the planet from the geographic North Pole to Antarctica.
The poison has no smell, it is invisible to the naked eye and can’t be detected in food by taste. It can only be identified by testing which the US government has refused to do. Why? The reasons are simple and chilling. The government can not offer safe substitutes for food, water, and air. If people were fully aware of the problem, they would likely choose to pull investment money out of Uranium mining and other stocks that pertain to nuclear power and weapons. Washington insiders refer to that scenario as a “panic.” The collapse of the Uranium mining and nuclear industry would severely impact some of the largest fortunes in the world, including Queen Elizabeth II, the United States Government, and other sovereign wealth funds. It would be very expensive to stop the Fukushima meltdowns and require tremendous construction, innovative technology, and developing new methods for core capture and decontamination. Politicians are being reassured by industry hacks who have science  credentials but no experience. These men have pushed nuclear for so long in complete denial of the dangers, they sound obsessed and have begun to believe their own hype.
The people of Earth have been left openly vulnerable to the global contamination while at the same time being deliberately misled. Politicians, reporters, doctors, those professionals the people look to for informed awareness have also been mislead and worse, they have been pressured to deny the dangers. They have complied, expecting the nuclear industry to get a handle on the disaster. They were buying time, hoping to announce that the industry had responsibly stopped the meltdowns and contained the radiation. Unfortunately, Tepco and the Japanese government has not used the time they were granted to aggressively attack the problem. Instead, they have cut costs by performing visible tasks like scrubbing walls and moving tsunami debris around with bulldozers. The wall they built offshore to prevent contamination from escaping into the sea has caused an underground river beneath the reactors to rise, contaminating the groundwater that now flows freely over the wall and has turned the plant into a radioactive swamp where men and machines cannot be effective. To sum it up, the problems have worsened at Fukushima to the point that all people everywhere should begin preparing emotionally for the worst. If contamination continues to flow out of Fukushima at it’s current rate, the phytoplankton that produce the oxygen we breathe will be exterminated. The Earth will lose it’s atmosphere, but not before everything living on land or in the sea has experienced the genetic and metabolic damage ingestion and inhalation of radiation causes.
People MUST contact their elected representatives in Washington and demand action. The Japanese and the wider nuclear network cannot be allowed to destroy the living world through ignorance and complaisance. Daily phone calls and emails to Congress may make a difference. Our politicians must be eductated. They are vulnerable to Fukushima radiation just like everyone else, but they don’t know that. Nuclear hacks are in their ear everyday claiming the problem is minor.
Please stand up. Call, write, educate yourself and others. There may still be time to make a difference, but everyday the time gets shorter, more poison is released, larger problems develop, and more people die. The nuclear industry has only ever made messes, they have never been required to clean anything up. People must demand action now.
